The Anderson Resident Artist Program Offers an Invitation to Create Without Restraint

The Anderson Resident Artist Program was created in loving memory of our namesake, Jacquelyn “Jackie”Anderson, a devoted photographer, creative force, and quiet champion of the arts who passed away from cancer in 2021. The program was established to honor Jackie’s passion for art and philanthropy and our club’s dedication to wellness, creativity, and connection.

Each quarter, The Jacquelyn’s arts jury panel will award one artist of any creative discipline a three-month sponsorship, offering them an opportunity to create wherever they live without the need to uproot their lives to participate. The sponsorship also provides the chance to develop art without the burdens of daily living expenses, materials costs, promotion pressures, or hefty gallery commissions. This residency invites artists to engage with a deeply personal and inspiring source: a curated book of 300 original photographs by Jackie, selected by her husband to reflect their shared love of travel, nature, and the beautiful details found in everyday life. Each selected artist will collaborate with Jackie’s photography portfolio to create new original work in conversation with her art.

Each resident artist is featured in a solo exhibition at The Jacquelyn. They are welcomed as members during their residency and celebrated at an event at the conclusion of their residency, where the resident artist receives 100% of all exhibition sales.

Michael ‘Mikey’ Mikolon’s residency at The Jacquelyn was a vibrant and meaningful exploration of place, community, and artistic expression. During his residency, Mikey immersed himself in our community, creating stunning works that delved into the intricacies of downtown Sacramento. Mikey drew on elements found in Jackie’s portfolio to travel to the same sites across the city to paint his own perspective of them, creating his collection “Sacramento Values.”

His residency portfolio offered a unique perspective on the city he holds dear, inviting audiences to appreciate its beauty and complexity through his artistic vision. Mikey’s collection of large-scale oil paintings showcased a spectrum of values and emotions inherent to the city. Mikey’s residency began with an opening reception, continued through several Happiness Hours where he shared his work, and concluded with a special event celebrating the culmination of his residency.
