The Pleasures of a Walk & Talk

How many times have you been driving down a street you’ve driven a million times and seen something new? Humans, as clever as we are, tend to only pay attention to things we deem important. Getting to work, picking up the kids, checking off another box on the to-do list.  These things are important, don’t get us wrong. But with 24 hours in a day, why not dedicate one of them to an activity that is simple, active, and evokes curiosity?

Sacramento residents have the best of both worlds- an urban landscape in the City of Trees. If you don’t already, it’s time to start paying attention to the beautiful city we get to call home. There’s no better way to do that than a good ol’ fashioned outdoor walk.

At the Jacquelyn, we love a good walk and talk. The multi-functionality of an outdoor stroll is endless. It’s one of the simplest practices to promote health and well-being, improving fitness, endurance, mood, memory, posture, circulation, and cardiovascular health (to name a few). “It’s the best medicine we can recommend: Just going out for a walk,” says Dr. Randal Thomas, a preventive cardiology expert at the Mayo Clinic.

Combine a walk with a talk, and you unlock even more benefits. Whether you feel stuck in a rut and need to get away from your stresses, or you want to open your conversations to the thrill of the unexpected as you wander, the Surprise & Delight Walk is a great practice that promotes wellness, creativity, and enjoyment without costing a thing.

Exercise while you socialize with fellow Jacquelyn members during our Surprise & Delight Walks. You’ll see Sacramento in a whole new light.
